1st Grade News!
Literacy
In this quarter, our first graders will begin to build on the skills of asking and answering questions about key details in a text. They will use keys details to retell stories in their own words, reveal an understanding about the central message of the text, and tell about the story elements.
Math
The students are learning how to count to 120 starting at any number less than 120. They will read and write numerals and represent a number of objects with a written number. They will also be introduced to place value. Students will learn that a 2 digit number represents amounts of tens and ones.
Science
Students will learn about forces and motion. They will learn the importance of a push or a pull to changing the motion of an object as well as how some forces can be used to make things move without touching them such as magnets.
Social Studies
Students will understand why rules are needed in the homes, schools, and community as well as classifying the roles of authority figures in their homes, schools, and community.
